1. Purpose
NGU Dance Studio recognises that parents, carers and students may wish to take photographs and videos during classes, rehearsals, performances and events. This policy explains when photography and filming are permitted and how NGU Dance aims to respect the privacy, safety and wellbeing of all students.
2. Photography and Filming During Classes
Photography and filming by parents, carers and students is generally permitted within the NGU Dance studio during classes, unless the teacher has specifically stated that photography or filming is not permitted for that particular class, activity or occasion. If a teacher asks that filming or photography stops, this instruction must be respected. Teachers may restrict or prohibit filming where they consider it necessary for safeguarding, privacy, student wellbeing, concentration, the nature of the class or any other reasonable concern.
3. Respect for Other Students
Anyone taking photographs or filming must be considerate of other students and must not disrupt the class or distract participants. Where possible, individuals should avoid deliberately recording students whose parent/carer has requested that they are not photographed or filmed.
4. Children and Young People
NGU Dance recognises that parents/carers may have different preferences regarding photographs and videos of their children. Parents/carers who have concerns about their child being photographed or filmed should speak to the teacher or Nina Ely. Where NGU Dance itself takes photographs or videos for promotional, social media, website or other official purposes, appropriate permission will be obtained where required.
5. Use and Sharing of Images
Anyone taking photographs or videos within the studio is responsible for how those images are used and shared. Images or videos must not be used to embarrass, bully, harm, intimidate or otherwise negatively affect another student. Images or videos containing other children should not be shared publicly without appropriate consideration of their privacy and, where necessary, permission from their parent/carer.
6. Social Media
NGU Dance understands that families may wish to share their dance experiences on social media. Anyone sharing photographs or videos containing other students should respect their privacy and obtain appropriate permission where necessary. NGU Dance may ask for content to be removed where it raises a safeguarding, privacy or wellbeing concern.
7. Performances and Events
Photography and filming may be permitted during NGU Dance performances, showcases, rehearsals and events. Specific instructions may be given for individual events. Where filming or photography is restricted, parents/carers and students will be informed.
8. Teacher’s Authority
The teacher responsible for the class has the authority to manage photography and filming within the studio. The teacher may allow filming, restrict filming, ask individuals to stop filming or prohibit filming where there is a safeguarding, privacy, safety, concentration or practical reason. Teacher instructions must always be respected.
9. Official NGU Dance Photography and Filming
Where NGU Dance takes photographs or videos for its own website, social media, advertising, promotional material, performances or other official purposes, appropriate consent and permissions will be considered and obtained where required. Official NGU Dance content will be handled in accordance with the NGU Dance Data Protection Policy.
10. Safeguarding
Photography and filming must never compromise the safety, privacy or dignity of a child or young person. Any concern regarding inappropriate photography, filming, sharing of images or online behaviour should be reported to Nina Ely. NGU Dance reserves the right to ask a person to stop filming or photographing where there is a reasonable safeguarding, privacy, safety or behavioural concern.
11. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are changes to legislation, safeguarding guidance or NGU Dance procedures.
